Game Recap: Hawks/Clippers

Here's what we'll do...you can go check out the other blogs and whatever they said - I'll just co-sign and say Al was awesome, I don't get why Al was able to get his milestone and then sit, but Josh wasn't, or why Joe Johnson who wasn't shooting for anything was in the game longer than he was.

Hawks 110, Clippers 92

I've spent all my time trying to figure out what the Hawks can do to convince me that our team and organization is striving to win a title this year. And I've yet to hear anything convincing yet (and no, trading for Jamal Crawford was not it). So, I'm going to say - I hope we win a title. I think I'm probably the only person who is going to be upset with the entire organization that we won't be doing so...and by upset, I mean - I'd consider firing Woodson, trading assets, and doing something drastic to shake us out of the doldrums we'll be in for a few years and instead just build around Smith and Horford exclusively. That would be my answer - my answer probably won't be heeded.

What does this have to do with the Hawks/Clippers? Nothing really - other than this being a game where Horford and Smith showed every reason why they (even against a poor team) are the present for the Hawks, not just the future.

Nope, I would be upset too. I'm going to be upset if they don't win a title this year because at the end of today's trade deadline they basically said we're good enough as is. Plus, I'm irrational anyway. You're not alone Luv.

I like to think of this season as the recon season and next year is the ambush season. We are going to attempt to hold our team together and watch as all the other teams blow things up and fight over free agents in the offseason so that we'll be the only stable team left standing and that's when we take over. I know, it probably won't happen because JJ will leave for more money, but hey, it's a fun thought.

In other news, are you finally coming around to the thought that Horford can be that dominant 20/10 or so guy?

Horford is more talented than I gave him credit for offensively, BUT I'm not on board with the 20 and 10 part...definitely not in this offense.

I agree with you there. I am afraid we have capped ourselves out with Woodson as coach. Horford has a ton of talent but we don't do anything consistently to get him the ball where he can be successful.

I won't be upset because it's clear these Hawks just aren't good enough to beat Orlando, Cleveland, or the Lakers in a 7 game series. And there wasn't anything they could do at the trade deadline that would have changed that short of trading Jason Collins for Dwight Howard. I'll take my competitive 2nd round series loss and be moderately content that the team won't be screwing up another high draft pick. Now if you want to talk about making major changes in the offseason, then I could sign on enthusiastically.

Well, Ron E - I don't think I'm going to be upset about the fact that we didn't make a specific move. My overall point (that I keep having to explain) is that after seeing the results of the moves made this offseason - we don't look to be on track to EVER beat the Magic, Cavs (w/ LeBron), or the Lakers. That's the problem - that we haven't continued to tinker and dangle pieces to get us to that level is the upset factor for me.

So, everyone keeps talking about who should we get at the deadline and I said - practically, no one who would be able to put us over the top. More philosophically, you prove my point in that you are resigned to lose in the 2nd round and are happy we aren't messing up drafts...my point is that I'm not content with anything short of making championship moves. My biggest problem with the jamal trade was that I thought it might have a hamstringing effect on us at the deadline and it definitely had that effect. There's no telling who we could have gotten (Jamison, Amare, ?) that might have been a better overall fit than Jamal.

that doesn't mean I'm right, but I'm the guy who says if it doesn't track to a title - why do it? It's the reason I wasn't a fan of signing Bibby back to this team and we're seeing that it was a mistake to do so. I would have preferred Jack or just to let Jeff Teague take his lumps this season, but I digress...
